Nascio , Val Graveglia..... a lucky strike

During the last months  we  have some free time dedicated to field collecting trips .. and we decided to visit with some friends the  places near the village of Nascio famuous for epidote and quartz  discoveries mainly done in the '80.

Nascio is a characterist village of the Liguria countryside and it's situated in Graveglia valley  near the famous manganese mines of Molinello, Gambatesa and Cassagna  well known for a series of rare and type -locality minerals    ( see more here )

The  surroundings of Nascio are also well know for the  diabase outcrops where  in past  was possible to find nice samples of epidote and quartz crystals.

With the purpose of visiting the location after many years  from last time ,   we plan our trip last march and we spend some  hours looking at several old works   spread in the mountain above Nascio.  In the late morning we found a small green vein in the diabase  not bigger than 1 cm   and we decided to  dig  just to see if the vein will contuine deeper   dreeming a larger vug ......and we got it!!

Unfortunately was too late do dig the vein and continue the workings so we decided to cover it and coming after two days  to work  the main portion of the vein which seems very good   as you can judge from the pictures. 

At last  we work the place for  4 days   collecting some nice specimens which now are on our own collection .....we learned from this experience that also the places considered exausthed can offer some surprises .
